Upon arrival at Oaxaca International Airport (OAX), you will be met by a representative of Better Adventures in the arrivals hall and transferred to the hotel. Check-in to the hotel and enjoy some free time to settle in and freshen up.
This evening, gather for a welcome reception at the hotel and dinner with the group at a local restaurant.
A full American-style breakfast will be served each morning during the program.
Excursion: Ancestral Food Tour
Begin your day with a guided ancestral food tour, exploring the flavors that define Oaxacan cuisine. Visit markets and specialty shops to learn about the history and preparation of key ingredients like corn, cacao, and chiles, while we explore the city. You’ll get the chance to sample some of Oaxaca's most iconic foods and drinks, such as tamales and tejate, and many lesser-known ones as well.
Excursion: Monte Alban
In the afternoon, head to Monte Albán, one of the most significant archaeological sites in Mexico. Your guide will take you through this ancient Zapotec city, sharing the history and significance of the ruins while you enjoy breathtaking views of the Oaxaca Valley.
Enjoy the evening and dinner at leisure. The Tour Manager will have recommendations for you.
Excursion: Barro Rojo Pottery
Spend the morning in Tlapazola at a Barro Rojo pottery workshop, where local artisans, primarily women, will demonstrate the ancient techniques of working with red clay. Hear their inspiring stories as you try your hand at shaping your own piece of pottery.
Sit down for a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
Excursion: Textile Workshop in Teottilan del Valle
Visit the village of Teotitlán del Valle, renowned for its intricate handwoven textiles. Meet a local weaver and learn about the centuries-old process of creating vibrant rugs and tapestries using natural dyes. You’ll get a close look at how wool is spun, dyed, and woven into stunning designs.
The evening and dinner are at leisure.
Excursion: Hierve el Agua
Explore the natural wonder of Hierve el Agua, famous for its petrified waterfalls and mineral pools. Take a dip in the refreshing waters or enjoy the dramatic landscape and panoramic views of the valley.

Excursion: Mezcal-Making at a Women-Owned Palenque
Visit a women-owned palenque, where you’ll learn about the mezcal-making process from start to finish. This immersive experience includes a tasting of various agave spirits and a delicious traditional lunch prepared by the hosts, and served in their agave fields.
Return to Oaxaca for free time and dinner on your own.

Optional Excursion: Alebrijes Experience & Coyotepec Visit
Take the opportunity to explore the art of alebrijes in the village of Arrazola. These fantastical carved and painted wooden creatures, combining ancient and modern styles, are an emblem of Oaxaca’s presentday artistry. Meet the artisans behind these colorful creations and learn about the history, carving, and painting process. You will be able to paint your own small alebrije.
After lunch, return to Oaxaca City. Stop briefly in Coyotepec, a town famous for its Barro Negro pottery, to admire the distinct black clay pieces that are both decorative and functional.
The remainder of the afternoon and evening are at leisure.
Excursion: Cooking Class
We start the day with a market visit in Oaxaca City to select fresh ingredients for your cooking class. Accompanied by expert local chefs, you’ll learn to prepare authentic Oaxacan dishes, such as mole, tlayudas, or tamales, and enjoy the fruits of your labor during lunch.
The afternoon is yours to relax, shop, or explore more of Oaxaca on your own.
In the evening, reconvene with your group for a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant, where you’ll toast to an unforgettable week in Oaxaca.
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Oaxaca International Airport for your international flight home.
